MaryBeth spent last Sunday morning pacing the floor as if she were a little kid and it was Christmas Eve. No, we weren’t getting a jump start on the holidays, but she was getting a heck of a present that day. The transformation of her mild mannered commuter bike into an Xtracycle commuting superhero was complete and she was nearly frantic wanting to take it for a spin. Naturally the bike shop didn’t open until noon. Let’s just say it was a long morning…for all of us…
If we had gotten to the store a bit earlier, she certainly would have offered to help the employees unlock the door. They may, or may not, have thought her to be the somewhat annoying, though still endearing, person that the rest of the family did.
While she hasn’t gone too crazy testing the load capacity of the X, she has so far carried out her normal commute; carried Junior’s carseat to school (irony, anyone?); hauled Junior AND HIS BIKE home from school; and carted Junior to the dentist. She reports that the X is a kick in the pants…and like any newly converted zealot, will likely keep us all posted about the minutia of life with an X.
Junior reports that riding on the back to the X is “awesome and I don’t have to pedal”. That makes two “yes” votes for the X. Mark’s bike gets the bionic conversion this week so we may get unanimous support for the X soon.
In short, MaryBeth feels like a kid with the cool toy no one else got for Christmas. And she hasn’t had this much fun on a bike in 10 years!
Now she has to name her new ride. Suggestions are most welcome.
